Upcoming Events

Below you will find upcoming events at the Submarine Force Museum

NAUTILUS and the Submarine Force Museum site will be closed to the public on 7 November and remain closed through the end of 18 November.

Because we have a significant amount of shipboard work that must occur this year, we are unable to re-open the museum building after the first week.  We are actively trying to have the museum open over the weekend (12-13 November), but at this time we do not have a clear path to bring the public back on site on those two days. We will keep timely updates posted to our website (www.ussnautilus.org) and facebook pages.

Rememberance of the Nautilus Polar Crossing

Special event stations to commemorate the NAUTILUS crossing of the North Pole and the Navy Blimp SNOW GOOSE polar over flight.

On Saturday August 8, 2015 K1USN Radio Club members will operate radio stations at the Shea Naval Air Museum and at the nearby Shea Memorial Grove in South Weymouth MA, under call signs K1USN and W1NAS.  Tri-City Amateur Radio Club based in Southeastern Connecticut will operate radio stations at the USS NAUTILUS and Submarine Force Library and Museum in Groton, CT under call sign N1S.

These conjunctive operations, scheduled between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM DST, are to commemorate the NAUTILUS polar crossing and the over flight of the Navy blimp “SNOW GOOSE”.  NAUTILUS transited the polar ice cap between July 27 and August 5, 1958, crossing the North Pole on August 3rd.  SNOW GOOSE took off from NAS South Weymouth MA on a fifteen-day mission that brought it across the Arctic Circle during July and August 1958.  For additional information see the ANA Patriot Squadron’s web site at http://www.anapatriotsquadron.org, the W1NAS web site at http://www.qrz.com/db/w1nas, The Tri-City ARC website at http://www.qsl.net/tricityarc/ and the Submarine Force Library and Museum website.  Amateur Radio Operators and visitors are invited to visit the operating sites.
