RADM Richard (Dick) Riddell (retired)

Dick Riddell is the Director for Undersea Warfare Programs at General Dynamics Corporate Headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia. He joined General Dynamics Corporation in October 1998. He works in Government Relations, with additional responsibilities to the Marine Group and the International Staff. He assesses the feasibility of initiatives in technology development, special programs, mission analysis, and advanced concepts for submarines, surface ships and other warfare systems. Additionally, he is involved with a number of international programs.

Dick completed thirty-six years of active duty in the U.S. Navy in 1998, achieving the rank of Rear Admiral, upper half. He was a nuclear submariner, commanding the USS Nautilus, Submarine Squadron One, and Submarine Group Nine. During his last three years in the Navy, he was simultaneously the director of the Navy's special access programs, he was in charge of policy and budget for the Navy's test and evaluation programs, he was responsible for setting the requirements for the Navy's science and technology programs, and he was the Navy's representative to NATO and fifteen member nations for research and development matters.
